General Tyres - General Summer Tyres

Normal tyres are also referred to as Summer Tyres to distinguish them from tyres developed to perform better in Winter conditions.

They ideally operate in the dry and the wet in temperatures above 7 degress centigrade.

General All Season Tyres - General Four Season Tyres - General 4 Season Tyres

All Season tyres are designed to cope with all year round conditions and give Winter capability that is not present in Summer Tyres. In hot dry conditions a Summer tyre will perform better and in cold and snowy conditions a Winter tyre will perform better as they are each optimised.

An All Season tyre gives good capability throughout all times of the year. It removes the need to fit two sets of tyres, summer and winter, during the year and is an ideal choice for the UK climate.

Sometimes referred to as Mud and Snow, M&S, M+S, Town and Country tyres.

General Winter Tyres - General Cold Weather Tyres - General Snow Tyres

When the temperature is less than 7 degrees centigrade Winter Tyres, also called Cold Weather Tyres, should be fitted to increase safety. Often referred to as Snow Tyres this is misleading as it implies they should only be used or are only effective in snow conditions.

At low temperatures the tread rubber compound on normal / summer tyres becomes less pliable and more plastic reducing the tyres grip and especially increasing stopping distances even at low speeds thus reducing road safety.

General Original Equipment (OE) Tyres - General Original Fitment Tyres - General Factory Fitment Tyres

These are the brand and model of tyres fitted by the vehicle manufacturer to the new vehicle at the factory.

These tyres are developed between the vehicle manufacturer and the tyre manufacturer to produce a tyre that will compliment and optimise the performance of the vehicle.

A growing number of vehicle marques have their own tyre sidewall markings to show that the tyre is designed to fit those vehicles.
